American capitalism has no soul

Written by William Grieder

When we look deeper for the soul of capitalism, we find that, in terms of ordinary human existence, American capitalism doesn't have one.  In the economic sphere, efficiency trumps community.  Maximizing returns comes before family or personal loyaly.  What seems priceless in one realm may be wasted freely or destroyed by the other.

William Grieder, cited by David Korten in The Great Turning, p.126.
