Elitism on the Left

Written by Rabbi M. Lerner

Once the Left embraces a worldview capable of articulating the spiritual crisis, it has a chance of capturing sections of the public who might supply it with electoral victory.  But it faces another major obstacle:  it has to overcome the perception of many people that the Left is rife with elitist contempt for ordinary Americans.  That contempt is expressed partly in the disdain that the Left has for the voting behavior if Americans and partly in the ridicule and put-down it expresses toward the religious commitments that are central to the lives of so many Americans.
