Sacred Earth2

"It is more and more uncommon for modern people to be from a particular landscape. Unrooted, we move from place to place as though the land in which we live is virtually disposable and certainly interchangeable. This diaspora reveals the fundamental instability and spiritual blindness of modern civilization generally, and of Americans in particular. Modern Americans, with our mercantilist mentality, believe that one can buy and sell everything, that the physical land is all. But for the original peoples, existence in this world is a spiritual pilgrimage, and the landscape itself is spiritual."
