The Book of Joy

Written by Douglas Abrams

Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, on the occasion of their 80th birthdays, met in Dharamsala in April, 2015, where they discussed their understanding of how to achieve lasting happiness in an ever-changing and difficult world. They concluded that joy and happiness is attained when one practices compassion and will-to-good, with the intent to benefit others.  These two great spiritual teachers, even though of different faith traditions, agreed to the same conclusions.  Further, compassion for others, will-to-good and equanimity apply across all faith traditions and even to people of no organized religion--being kind, compassionate to others and helpful whenever possible brings happiness to the practitioner.

These two great spiritual teachers understand that the discord, chaos and hatred in the world at present is an unnecessary  product of human behavior.  The Book of Joy can help us, as individuals, to be calm and happy.
